The Kimberley
Kimberley Fine Diamonds has its home in the famous Kimberley Region. With its rugged and remote mountain ranges, breathtaking scenery and its Argyle Diamond Mine, it is the perfect location for Kimberley Fine Diamonds.
The Kimberley is one of the world’s last great wilderness regions. It covers and expanse of nearly 423,000 square kilometre (three times the size of England) with a population of only 25,000 people.
It is situated in the far north west of Western Australia and its immense and ancient landform encompasses rugged ranges and spectacular gorges, cascading waterfalls, mighty rivers and complex cave systems.
Kununurra is the gateway to the Kimberley and its famous Purnululu National Park with its outstanding Bungle Bungle massif. It is a picturesque and modern town, established in 1960 as the centre for the Ord River Irrigation project. The town has become the major administrative centre for the East Kimberley, servicing farmers, pastoralists and the rapidly developing tourism and mining industries. With a resident population of around 6,000 it is one of the biggest towns in the Kimberley.
The Argyle Diamond Mine produces around 34 million carats of diamonds per year. This is over one third of the world’s production and includes the rare Argyle pink diamond. It is also one of the world’s most technologically advanced mines. Tours are available; however, bookings are essential, as access to the mine is restricted.
